Hwachong in the News (Ms Jiang Lai)

I believe you have heard of Ms Jiang Lai, the former school teacher who created a whirlwind on STomp after someone came across a post from her blog talking about which elite school boy would make the best boyfriend. In the post, she mentioned about how ACS was the best school to have a boyfriend while dissing other school such as Hwachong and Raffles.

After the incident, she proceeded to make another scene by changing her mind, saying Hwachong was the best, wanting to get her student, Misheel, into Hwachong. She came down to Hwachong and demanded to see Dr. Hon but worthy of his title, he refused to see her.

I personally believe that this entire situation was a fiasco created by Ms Jiang Lai to attract attention from both the press and the public. I think that the public has been very unprofessional in dealing with attention-seekers such as Ms Jiang Lai. They responded overwhelmingly, giving Ms Jiang Lai the attention she wanted. A large majority of these responds belonged to outraged Hwachong students who could not resist the urge to challenge her statements. One foolish student, Soh Hwa Jin, even met up with her to prove her point about Hwachong boys being ugly. I will not be naming names but I know that some of my friends, luckily only a rare minority, have added Ms Jiang Lai on facebook, requesting to be friends with her. I feel that they should not do this as it boosts Ms Jiang Lai's ego. The best way to deal with this problem is to ignore her. I praise Dr. Hon on his ability to resist the temptation of dealing with her.

In similar future scenarios, I hope that Hwachong students will be mature enough to ignore trouble makers such as Ms Jiang Lai and carry on working hard both in their studies and their CCAs.

Recent STOMP Article: Even students from elite school can't follow no-eating rule on bus

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/ugly_commuters/606506/even_students_from_elite_school_cant_follow_noeating_rule_on_bus.html

Regarding this incident, I have certain views and would like to share them.
First, I feel that as a fellow Hwa Chong student, the boys in the photo should not have brought their ice-creams onto the bus. They should have instead either finished consuming them and wait for the next bus or thrown away their ice-creams. The former is a better choice as they only sacrifice a small amount of time, around 5 minutes, and they still get to enjoy their ice-creams. The latter should only be done if they are running late for an appointment as they waste the ice-creams that they paid for. I feel that this incident is completely unnecessary and should not have happened.

Next, I would also like to point out how the STomper MMRN, the one who uploaded the pictures and the description, highlighted students from "elite schools". From this, I can see how the public has higher expectations of "elite school" students. This is a wrong misconception. I believe that the STomper should not have included "from elite school" in his/her title.

Lastly, I would like to raise the point about how the STomper MMRN only took a photo and waited to get home before publishing it on STomp. I feel that if he really cared about people bringing food onto the bus, he would have stopped the Hwa Chong boys there and then. By not stopping them and instead choosing to post it on STomp, I feel that the STomper has a grudge against elite school students and was looking for a way to express it. I feel that this is wrong as Singaporeans should be nice to each other. As the Hwa Chong motto goes, we should aim for a win-win, not a lose-lose.
